Get Healthy Tip #28: Three Push-Up “No-No’s” and What You Can Do To Receive GREATER Results!

More and more people are becoming involved with “Cross Fit” and “Boot Camp” types (i.e. Group) of training.

Fine.

But, not at the expense of “poor” or “improper” technique!

Hey, it is difficult enough train proper mechanics to one client, but to really safely and effectively train groups of people you MUST have your crap together.

Unfortunately, it seems that the people who are training “groups” of people have less knowledge, wisdom and experience than the “professionals” that are doing the “one-on-one” training.

Sad.

This is backwards!

3 POOR PUSH-UP TECHNIQUES

When it comes to the push-up, here is what I am seeing is being allowed:

  1. Horrendous Hand Placement
  2. The “Head Bob”
  3. The “Hip Thrust”

Please take a look at the short video below and see what I have to say about these three unfortunate approaches to the push-up.

Also, listen to what I say about what you can do, plus the introduction of the concept of “Resisted Range Of Motion.”

Please watch now!

Get Healthy Tip #27: Are you doing “Functional Training”? Is it right for you?

At this stage of the game, I am certain that you have at least heard of “Cross-Fit” and/or “Boot Camp” training.

But, do we really need to train in this fashion to attain optimal health?

I would suggest that all of us need to be able to do three primary movements.

By focusing on these three “basic” movements not only will we be improving our overall strength and endurance, but our posture and flexibility as well

Please, do NOT over-train.  There is no reason to sabotage your “health” results just to attain some level of “fitness.”

Do these basic moves throughout the week and work on gradually improving day to day and week to week.  Within a few months you will be amazed at how much strength, endurance and flexibility you have gained!

Functional Training

Remember, prioritize “big” movements that work the largest muscle groups in the body!

For starters I recommend:

SQUATTING:  Full body squats and pulse lunges!

PUSHING:  An assortment of push ups!

PULLING:  Rows and assisted pull ups!

Take a look:

Get Healthy Tip #25: The Side Warrior Pose!

As stated in last week’s “Get Healthy Tip,” one thing that I like to do when creating a proper exercise regimen is to “safely and effectively” challenge people in a number of ways.

One approach is to add “beneficial” and “practical” yoga moves!

Why?

Well, if you are already doing some weight bearing exercises and some of them are moderate to high impact, adding a few properly selected yoga poses can be of great benefit.

Variety is good, though in many cases overrated, but can be integral in reaching a number of goals and keeping a workout fresh!

The “Side Warrior Pose” is great for lower body strength and endurance and wonderful for improving posture.

Interested in stress relief? It will benefit you in that area as well.

The Side Warrior Pose

Remember, be safe and do NOT push yourself to hard initially!

Plus, yoga gives you another opportunity to work on your breathing skills.

For starters I recommend:

Beginners: 3 Breaths

Intermediate: 5 Breaths

Advanced: 10 Breaths

Get Healthy Tip #24: The Front Warrior Pose!

One thing that I like to do when it comes to creating an exercise regimen that will create amazing results is to challenge people in a number of ways.

One simple, but not necessarily easy way to do this is to add “Yoga Poses” to your day-to-day exercise program.

Why?

Well, if you are already doing some weight bearing exercises and some of them are moderate to high impact, adding a few properly selected yoga poses can be of great benefit.

I am in no way what you would call a “Yogi,” and I have no desire to be one, but I do see the importance of adding some of these yoga moves to any proper exercise regimen to “balance out” any results oriented exercise program.

This pose is one that will help improve your posture, stress levels, core strength and your lower body endurance, amongst other things…

The Front Warrior Pose

Remember, work on your technique and don’t try to challenge yourself to quickly because you think “yoga” is easy. That would be a HUGE mistake!

Plus, yoga gives you another opportunity to work on your breathing skills.

Here you go:
